海伦（海莉·凯特·爱森伯格 Hallie Kate Eisenberg 饰）自幼便没有视力和听力，束缚视频自然也不通语言，束缚视频一直以来，她都在黑暗里过着与世隔绝的生活。由于无法发泄内心的痛苦和孤独，海伦只能不停的折磨着周围照顾她爱护她的父母。为了避免海伦被送往孤儿院，母亲凯特（凯特·格林豪斯 Kate Greenhouse 饰）请来了名为安妮（艾丽森·艾略特 Alison Elliott 饰）的家庭教师，希望安妮能够教会海伦和缺陷和平共处的方法。一开始，海伦根本就不接受安妮的教诲，这让课程的进行举步维艰。在安妮的一再坚持下，凯特和丈夫同意让安妮和海伦进行只有两个人的单独授课，但时间只有两周。也正是在这两周里，安妮渐渐改变了海伦的一生。
