即將超過適婚年齡的打擊樂演奏者一禾，亚洲結識了鄰居大仁，亚洲二人在PUB中因談心又喝醉而有了進一步的接觸。一禾的家人知道後，誤會一禾懷孕而力促二人結婚。在籌備婚禮的過程中，父親、祖母和大仁忙進忙出好似一家人，一禾反而被置身之外無法參與。事件進行中，一禾一方面思考自己走上婚姻之路的理由，一方面想到父親對自己的期望與不捨，一禾面臨著這「終身大事」帶來的矛盾心境.....在結婚當天，一禾終於決定逃婚，去自己真正嚮往的地方。

It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte.The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944. Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance. The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.
